Incorporating Social Media in the Classroom

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

Session Description: From Facebook to Twitter and Wikis to Blogs, there is a veritable explosion of technology available to students today.  Research shows that up to 90% of young adults between the ages of 18 and 29 are using social media.  That means that in most classrooms students are engaging with Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and Snapchat.  Given this truly staggering percentage, educators must consider the value of social media as an educational tool. In this session, attendees will explore ways to incorporate social media into their classrooms, what types of social media may work best with different courses, how to engage students safely, how to set up different sites for courses, how to incorporate multi-media projects into a blog, and how to use YouTube as an alternative assignment tool.

Session Outcomes: Upon completion of this session, attendees will be able to:
1. use the tools given to safely incorporate social media into their classrooms
2. open / start a classroom page on Facebook and other sites,
3. start a blog and use it effectively in the classroom.
