Session Description: Did you know that the Wyoming Department of Education (WDE) adopted data-based individualization (DBI) as a proven approach for intervention at Tier 3 and special education? DBI is the National Center on Intensive Intervention (NCII)’s, an Office of Special Education Programs funded center, approach to intensive intervention. DBI is a research-based process found to improve academic, behavior, and school outcomes for students with significant learning needs in K-12. During this interactive session, participants will identify how DBI aligns with existing multi-tiered system of support (MTSS) and special education implementation. Participants will also have opportunities for applying the NCII’s Taxonomy of Intervention Intensity to design and intensify an intervention for students not responding to Tier 2 or special education services. At the end of the session, participants will explore free tools and professional development opportunities available through NCII and WDE to support individual educators, schools, and districts in implementing DBI.

Session Outcomes: Upon completion of this session, participants will be able to:
1. Explain how the intervention taxonomy within DBI distinguishes Tier 3 and special education interventions and supports from Tiers 1 and 2 supports.
2. Use free and available tool to implement DBI at Tier 3 and in special education.
3. Access federal and state resources and professional development available to support local implementation of DBI.
