Developing Just in Time Excellence in Teaching Faculty Development Courses in Canvas: A Collaborative Design Process

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

Session Description: Session participants will learn about the process the University of Wyoming Instructional Design team used to develop self-paced tutorials for faculty who teach online, face-to face, and blended courses. We created the tutorials with an emphasis on pedagogy in the Canvas LMS environment. To date, the tutorials include “Designing a Syllabus,” “WyoCourses Navigation and Settings,” “ Developing Graded Content,” and “Universal Design and UDOIT.” The course design, a collaboration among instructional designers on both the Laramie and Casper University of Wyoming campuses, went through multiple iterations and leveraged materials from Canvas Commons as well other other higher education institutions.

Session Outcomes: Upon completion of this session, attendees will be able to:
1. apply instructional design principles to developing similar how-to self-paced tutorials in LMS environments.
2. locate and adapt Creative Commons for tutorial design.
3. design assessment tools for self-paced online tutorials.
